so this is another one of our shoots that we set up ourselves. the dress is from sposa mia and is one i’ve had my eye on for months. the jewelry came from dustees in sharyland which is my new favorite place to shop :) make up was done by delia curiel and you can reach her at 956.240.4715. thanks delia…you did an awesome job!
so, funny story…since the fire i have been buying furniture off of craig’s list to re-furnish my home. i found a table i really wanted, and when i went to pick it up, todd answered the door. my first thought was ‘he is gorgeous!’ my second thought was ‘i wonder if he would model for us?’ then, when i met dana, his girlfriend, i knew i had to have them both :) they were perfect for what i had in mind…
i had lots of fun putting this shoot together. i had everything planned out…i knew i wanted strong, bright makeup with red lips and blue eyes (my mother was a bit horrified, but i happened to like it:). I knew i wanted red shoes and red accents on the dress. i wanted a 40’s inspired hair do which i do not think i executed very well since i did the hair, but o-well. i knew what i wanted for everything…everything except how i was going to do the veil. i was really stumped until i ran across a fellow photographer’s blog and saw a model with all of this tulle wrapped around her head and secured with a brooch! i immediately knew that was what i wanted! so i played around with the tulle (dana must have thought i was crazy) until i came up with the headpiece she ended up wearing. i have to say that although its totally unconventional, i love it :) that is the fun part about these shoots…they are totally experimental and give us the freedom to try whatever we want.
we started out taking pictures in the hotel we are staying at since it was pouring down rain at the beginning of the shoot. then we moved outside to downtown mcallen and found that super bright yellow wall and started having fun! i do have to say, even though i took the pictures, gerardo did all of the lighting which is half the job, so really we worked together to get the images. both dana and todd were so awesome to work with and we are really glad to have met them.
actually, the picture below has nothing to do with my birthday, but it was such a cute picture of our sweet ginger (and my dad) that i had to post it for all to see:) isn’t she adorable?
my sweet hubby and daughters decided that for my birthday i should get the royal treatment at a very local spa…our hotel living room :) the girls went shopping for hair products, nail polish, lotions and all kinds of good stuff. they brought me breakfast in bed, then led me to the living room where i was treated to a pedicure, manicure and new hairstyle. i loved being pampered, lounging around in my p.j.’s (yes, keep in mind i am in my p.j.’s and have just woken up). i guess that is the benefit of having all girls in our household…they love doing all things girly and sweet.
we had a rockin’ good time with emma and paul as well as ashley from ashley k photography who is the photographer for emma and paul’s upcoming wedding! this was a bit different for us since emma and paul hired us strictly for videography, but we ended up loving it since gerardo got to concentrate solely on video! we shot their e-session at the discovery green in downtown houston and then hit some old warehouses just down the road. we also covered emma’s bridals the next day at the most amazing location…paraiso maravilla which is also where the wedding will be held. emma and paul, you both were so much fun! and ashley…you rock! the images from the sessions were fantabulous! we can’t wait for the big day in november :)
p.s. just a side note…click play, then pause and let the video stream completely. this will take a few minutes so grab a soda and get a snack. the come back, push play and enjoy :)
we are looking for an office manager! gerardo and i love photography, but have found that in the past few months, running the studio is becoming almost impossible for us. returning phone calls and emails on time has become an overwhelming task, and trying to keep our schedules and paperwork organized is turning into a nightmare :) with four young daughters and increasing family life demands, we have decided we need to hire someone to help relieve us from the office responsibility. we hope that in return, this will facilitate us to have faster turn around times for editing and post production.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic self starter who is capable of running the day to day operation of our photo studio. Responsibilities include answering phone calls, making sales calls, scheduling appointments, answering emails, and general office managerial duties. A real people person and love for the art of photography a must.
