so this is another one of our shoots that we set up ourselves. the dress is from sposa mia and is one i’ve had my eye on for months. the jewelry came from dustees in sharyland which is my new favorite place to shop :) make up was done by delia curiel and you can reach her at 956.240.4715. thanks delia…you did an awesome job!
so, funny story…since the fire i have been buying furniture off of craig’s list to re-furnish my home. i found a table i really wanted, and when i went to pick it up, todd answered the door. my first thought was ‘he is gorgeous!’ my second thought was ‘i wonder if he would model for us?’ then, when i met dana, his girlfriend, i knew i had to have them both :) they were perfect for what i had in mind…
i had lots of fun putting this shoot together. i had everything planned out…i knew i wanted strong, bright makeup with red lips and blue eyes (my mother was a bit horrified, but i happened to like it:). I knew i wanted red shoes and red accents on the dress. i wanted a 40′s inspired hair do which i do not think i executed very well since i did the hair, but o-well. i knew what i wanted for everything…everything except how i was going to do the veil. i was really stumped until i ran across a fellow photographer’s blog and saw a model with all of this tulle wrapped around her head and secured with a brooch! i immediately knew that was what i wanted! so i played around with the tulle (dana must have thought i was crazy) until i came up with the headpiece she ended up wearing. i have to say that although its totally unconventional, i love it :) that is the fun part about these shoots…they are totally experimental and give us the freedom to try whatever we want.
we started out taking pictures in the hotel we are staying at since it was pouring down rain at the beginning of the shoot. then we moved outside to downtown mcallen and found that super bright yellow wall and started having fun! i do have to say, even though i took the pictures, gerardo did all of the lighting which is half the job, so really we worked together to get the images. both dana and todd were so awesome to work with and we are really glad to have met them.
